Social Justice and Peace
The Social Justice & Peace Commission is open to all members of our community who are interested in expressing their faith in Christ by serving others. We share a common interest in providing for the diverse needs of the parish, as well as the larger community, through a variety of short and long term projects. Some of these are food drives, Habitat for Humanity (building weekends-annual walk), Christmas Giving Tree, Lenten Suppers, Legislative Initiatives for justice and peace and Hospice. Activities of members are diverse and dependent on their interests and availability. No experience is required. Commitment varies from one to several hours monthly, depending on the project.
"A beggar in distress do not reject; avert not your face from the poor. From the needy turn not your eyes, give no man reason to curse you; for if in the bitterness of his soul he curse you, his Creator will hear his prayer ... deliver the oppressed from the hand of the oppressor; let not justice be repugnant to you. To the fatherless be as a father, and help their mother as a husband would; thus you will be like a son to the Most High, and he will be more tender to you than a mother." (Sirach 4: 4-6, 9-10)
